  1. How long is the academy?

    A: The academy is 17 weeks long.

  2. How soon may I test for a special assignment?

    A: You must serve a minimum of three years in patrol assignment before you may test for a special assignment.

  3. Do I receive preference points for being a military veteran?

    A: You do receive preference points, but they are applied to your score after you have successfully passed the written test. In order to receive the points you must bring a copy of your DD FM 214.

  4. Do you require a college degree in order to become a Tucson Police Officer?

    A: No, a college degree is not a requirement. You must possess a highschool diploma or a GED in order to be eligible to test.

  5. How old do I have to be before I can become a Tucson Police Officer?

    A: You must be 21 years old by the time you graduate the academy. So you may test at the age of 20, so long as you will be 21 at the conclusion of your academy graduation.
